New York Sept 22. After 16 months since his last home run title, George Herman Ruth is reported to have a daughter named Dorothy. Mrs Ruth publicly denied adopting a child after rumors spread when she appeared at the Polo Grounds with a nurse and baby.
A Haverhill High School youth reportedly eloped with two young women in an alleged stolen car. Police in five states and Canada hunted the trio as details of the unusual romance emerged yesterday.
Brookline writer Joseph Walker attacks the party split over a bonus plank. The Republican State convention opens at 10 30 a m in Symphony Hall. The resolutions committee rejected Walker's pro bonus plank and other insurgent proposals.
Hollis L. Joy faced a street robbery on Fenway when a robber pointed a pistol. Joy jabbed with a pipe in the abdomen of the gunman, causing the assailants to flee. Joy lives at 128 Hemenway Street and reported the incident to three police officers.
Paul Downey of Roxbury a 21 year old clerk at the Federal Trust Company and two other men were arrested last night charged with larceny of 45000 from the bank. Robert LE Finn age 34 of Sutherland Road Brighton linked to Gem Advertising Company.
A section of the Strand theatre lobby floor collapsed as hundreds of school children waited to enter. The incident killed one child and injured about 30 others, many pinned under rubble and debris while posters and a large advertising frame collapsed with the structure. The day’s feature was The Trap.
Eighty milk drivers for Francis S. Comneny, with plants in Somerville and Dorchester, walked out early this morning. The protest targets keeping their own books and making collections, with sixty workers at the Somerville plant and the rest in Dorchester.

A summer dry-ice expedition led by Professor Frederic B. Loomis in South Dakota Wyoming and Nebraska uncovered a rare ancient camel skeleton near Mitchell Nebraska and near Indian Creek Wyoming. The team collected about a ton of Miocene era specimens including early camel ancestors dogs cats rhinoceroses and peculiar elotheres. One skeleton was destroyed by a sheriff and posse who mistook it for bootleg device amid other misadventures including a cattleman’s suspicions of rustling.
Miss Agnes T. Keefe of Salem says she could not have written her story "After 40 Years" without the Witch City post office’s efficient service. The statement comes after she won the 73d Ford that has been given by the Post to Ford a Day contestants.
Miss Keefe voiced a positive view of the Salem post office efficiency as a new touring car was delivered to her at 157 Federal Street in Boston where she is employed.
Marlboro police sought Ardeen Schwartz Jr. 17 who vanished after leaving home Monday noon after dinner. He is 5 feet 11 inches, about 150 pounds, blue eyes, light complexion, last seen near Lincoln Street. He recently returned from Camp Devens and belongs to Company F 181st Infantry National Guard.
A boat strike on the Hampton River resulted in four fatalities with four others saved. A mother shielded her child from harm during the tragedy, authorities said. Police and rescue teams investigated the incident and recovered bodies from the wreckage.
At Hampton Beach New Hampshire a motor boat was driven by a strong outgoing tide into piling at Mile Point. Four people drowned including two boys. A woman and a baby were rescued. The tragedy occurred this afternoon during the usual resort season.
