London reports three British cruisers and two German submarines sunk during Kaiser's raid from Helgoland on the British patrol fleet. One vessel is sunk after another with many lives lost. The British fleet to be ordered to go in and dig out the German fleet. Reports claim capture of three German ships bearing supplies for the Atlantic fleet.
A mix of war dispatches reports Russian advances toward Cracow Breslau and Austrian resistance. British cruisers Cressy Aboukir and Loge sank by five German submarines in the North Sea off Holland. Dutch steamer Titon rescued 20 wounded and dead. Official notes confirm combat losses and troop movements across Europe.

Samuel J. Trilling a Manchester jeweler was lured to a cottage by a promised sale of diamonds and shot three times by a man named Richards. He was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital with gunshot wounds to the back and face, with one bullet destroying his upper teeth.
