Mr Chas Ball takes charge of the Men's and Boys Hats and Caps department this Fall and Winter at G. W. Simmons & Co. 82 to 44 North Street Boston. The stock includes hats, caps, toboggans, robes, furs, and umbrellas with prices under market. Silk hats in Broadway styles from five dollars, cloth derby hats at one dollar, youths and boys cloth hats 75 cents, children's cloth turbans 50 cents.
Worcester Sept 19 The investigation committee report is debated at tonight’s convention with Russell or Lovering leading the ticket. Delegates from Middlesex Berkshire Franklin and other counties back Russell as organizers prepare 5000 ballots while L owering supporters push for a strong platform.

New York Central Labor Union split with factions joining Henry George and the Progres sive party. The coke district strike threat did not occur. The report notes an unconfirmed Atlantic & Pacific railroad accident with many killed and injured.
The inquest on Mitch elstown victims sees Timothy Harrington denounce Police Sergeant Kirwan as a murderer. A riot at Lillie Bridge erupts over a missing advertised runner with buildings burned and extensive damage. A Mexican war bureau chief is fatally shot in a duel.

The sixth measure calls for abolishing the poll tax. The seventh would name Labor Day and refer to labor relations and commencements in the act creating the holiday.

In Mexico City a duel occurred at a barracks with General Rocha facing Antonio Gayon, a war department official. Gayon was shot in the right breast and believed dying after the first shot. The dispute arose from letters about military officers’ conduct in the war against the empire. A second duel is set for Wednesday between General Navajo and General Pradilla, seconds in today’s duel.
Weather bulletin from Washington notes cooler conditions across Maine New Hampshire and Massachusetts followed by warmer fair weather with light to fresh northwesterly winds. Rhode Island and Connecticut see cooler then warmer conditions with up to northerly winds. Eastern New York and Vermont experience cooler then warmer fair weather with variable winds shifting southerly. Henry George faces a 3100 fine for failure to appear as a juror in the City Court and seeks remission claiming a misunderstanding. Judge Brown declined the request and the fine remains payable.

Crowd anger over the no show of Gent and Hutchins led to a riot at Lillie Bridge. Spectators burned stands and railings, looted pubs, and pelted police and firemen with bottles. A railway inspector collapsed and died after the disturbance. bets collapsed as grounds owners kept entrance money.
