Bertram G. Lawton of Salem shot and killed Mrs. Laura A. Guild of Somerville at Clifton Marblehead yesterday noon. He then killed himself with another bullet. The tragedy fulfilled a late threat after earlier knife threats. the woman had fled to another state.
Mrs. Guild decides to leave to escape a persistent jealous suitor. Police believe his actions threaten her safety and are pursuing leads in the case.
Mrs Frank Leslie widow of the noted publisher died tonight in an uptown New York hotel. Miriam Florence Folin the Baroness de Bazus, born in New Orleans, had been prominent in publishing since 1880. Her career rose after Garfield’s assassination when a 30000 copy issue boosted profits by about 50000 dollars.
