Boston mourned Patrick A. Collins the mayor and statesman as crowds from the state city federal officials and distant commonwealths joined in his funeral. Creeds united in the farewell, bowing in common grief as the departed executive was laid to rest in Holyhood.
Judge William H. H. Emmons and wife were among Boston notables aboard the noon Springfield to Boston train when a car overturned. About a score and a half of passengers were injured but there was no loss of life as the train had just left the station and ran at a slow pace.
Two convicts Frank R. Wiley and Minot St. Clair Francis escaped Bridgewater State Farm and sparked mass manhunt across southern Massachusetts and parts of Rhode Island. President John Mitchell of the United Mine Workers announced that a convention of mine workers from the three anthracite districts will be held in Shamokin on December 14. The meeting will frame demands to be presented to anthracite coal companies next spring, mirroring actions before the 1902 strike.
