General Pershing's forces push 2 to 3 miles on a 30 mile front with Metz fortress guns replying. Allies seek to protect railway lines near Metz as American patrols move beyond the main line. The report notes continued action along the Metz sector.
The Austro Hungarian government issued a note inviting all belligerents to non binding peace talks at a neutral location with the aim of exchanging views to see if prerequisites for negotiations exist. Germany reportedly made a definite peace offer to Belgium and the note was also sent to neutrals and the Holy See.
Officials in Washington note Germany's latest peace feeler arrived via Austria and prompt a response to President Wilson's Baltimore speech. Wilson urged the use of maximum force to establish right as the law of the world and to crush selfish dominion.
