Report from Dieppe says Von Kluck’s center is under threat as swift Allied advance aims to cut off a large German force. About 25,000 German troops reportedly surrounded or forced to surrender while Allied lines press, with Austrians claiming victory but Russian reports indicating Austrian defeat.
District Attorney Pelletier has declined to present more cases for trial or disposition before Judge Henry A. King during the term. Jurors not yet discharged will be released this morning, halting criminal business in Suffolk county until another judge is assigned.
Joseph A. Plouff, president of the Lafayette Savings Bank at 452 Boylston Street Boston, was arrested at his Ware home by State police yesterday on a charge of larceny in connection with banking transactions.

A tax on all commercial papers including checks notes drafts and insurance policies, a tax on all legal papers such as mortgages deeds contracts and wills, a tax on telegraph messages and long distance telephone messages, a 2 cent per gallon gasoline tax, plus special taxes on bankers brokers theatres concert halls bowling alleys billiard rooms and an added tobacco tax.
The criminal court must sit throughout the year as long as there are men held without bail in jail. If adjourned to the October sitting, more than 180 men remain in jail awaiting trial.
