Mrs May Griffiths daughter of Patrolman John J Griffiths of Cambridge swam from Sunnyside Winthrop to Apple Island in two and a half miles in one hour and ten minutes. The feat, never before performed by a woman, had been attempted several times.
In St Louis on September 15 Joe Wood earned his 16th straight win and 32nd of the season as the Red Sox swept the doubleheader 2 to 1 after a 5 to 4 loss in the opener. A Boston pennant tonight hinges on further victories and possible Cleveland results.
