Boston endures record heat for September with 88 degrees at 3 PM and high humidity. Forecaster Smith issued a storm warning for today, predicting a northeast storm near the middle Atlantic coast moving northward with rain tonight and strong easterly winds. Many people and animals suffer while shade and cooling measures spread across the city.
Marcus Silberman aged 26 of BHighth street South Boston was found unconscious at Broadway and Dorchester avenue about 9 15 last night. City Hospital treatment sought for acute stomach trouble attributed to heat.
John Jack was found lying in the doorway at 6 Elm Street about 3 30 by a Division 2 officer and sent to the Relief station. He lives at 7 Needham Street, Needham. John W. Durkin of 26 Princeton Street, Clarkstown, was overcome in the Decatur market while at work about 5 and taken to the Relief station.
A ranchman named Kerkey was found frozen near his home twelve miles northwest of Minot Ind after venturing into a snow storm to recover straying cattle. He collapsed from exhaustion and cold in the severe weather.
Senator W T A Fitzgerald, chair of the Democratic city committee, says voter gains are significant as 105,379 are registered for the state primaries, about 6,000 less than last year’s state election. Officials note Luce's primary law shortened early registration, and outer registrations may occur later for the caucuses.
A bloody bareknuckle fight at Jeffries Point Rowing Club in East Boston ended with Lefty Conroy knocked out the opponent and arrested. A crowd of women fainted and police arrived as the victor was detained after the melee that erupted over an insult to a woman.
In New York on September 15 the Republican and Democratic primaries ran smoothly. In the ninth district William S. Devery pressed Frank J. Goodwin but lost by 404 votes as Goodwin secured the district victory.

Late last night a tar oil can exploded at the Whitney gas plant in Everett injuring John McNeil of 34 Cambridge Street Charlestown who was treated for burns to arms face and chest. Earlier a boiling milk can exploded at a Spring Lane restaurant injuring John Armstrong of 765 Ocean Avenue Revere who spent the night in the emergency ward.
Burglars forced an entrance into A. Capitolio’s Revere shoe store at 505 Broadway through a rear window and took about $50 worth of shoes. Police investigate the burglary.
A street culvert on Avery street and Avery place became a rushing drain for nearly half an hour after a hydrant burst. The cover flew off with a crash and a miniature geyser spouted as firemen from Mason street and city workers fought the flow for over an hour to check the water.
Richard Clamp aged 42 of Hopedale a driver for an ice wagon was struck by a 200 pound cake of ice falling ten feet. He suffered a broken under jaw and three left ribs a dislocated right shoulder and internal injuries. He was taken to Milford Hospital.
Police found Tony Melus, a Polish man, unconscious on Elmwood Street in Lynn. He was hospitalized with a bullet wound to the abdomen and placed on the dangerous list. He accused John Raulen of 178 Elmwood Avenue of shooting him.
Frank W. Proctor an electrician at a local theatre survived an 800 volt electric shock after discovering a short circuit. He did not wear rubber gloves assuming the power was off and was unconscious for about 15 minutes before regaining consciousness and being treated at the Emergency Hospital for hand burns.
H Cheston Vansant eastern manager of United States Steel Corporation died in Philadelphia from appendicitis after a six day illness. He was 43.
James Kerr Kelly, aged 84, longtime United States Senator from Oregon, dies at his residence in Washington on September 15. He served as a key political figure and National figure in Oregon politics during his tenure.
Dedham September 15 James Johnson alias Sam Scott a negro indicted on two counts of robbing Charles W Clifford’s Quincy home on August 4 and assault with intent to kill was sentenced on the first charge to a State prison term of 17 to 20 years. The second case was placed on file.
