Buff alo N Y September 15 crowds reach 80000 as McKinley lies in state at City Hall from 1:30 p m to midnight extending the time due to immense demand. A funeral train to Washington leaves with Mrs McKinley and Cabinet aboard. Roosevelt attends services at the Milburn house and officials gather for the state funeral.
A Spanish war veteran reports Lawrence soldier Malloy is a prisoner of the English in Africa after being captured June 2. A German ex-prisoner claims Malloy was alive while the German gained release. The State Department and Congress may seek inquiry into the German’s release and Malloy’s status. Malloy led Irish American nurses turned to Boer fighters and opposed England, according to friends.
The report notes generally fair weather for Monday and Tuesday with some showers in the southern area. Winds shift to northerly and westerly in various regions, with fresh to brisk southwest winds for ships heading to European ports. A cyclone moves over northern Lake Superior while a low strengthens into a front near the Gulf of Mexico.
Mary Kidney died at her residence 455 Dudiey street after long illness. She retained most faculties until near the end. Survivors include Mr. Charles FS amonger neers grandsons Aree J Quirk and Hon. Charles Quirk, Joseph A. Ryan of Brook- in.
President Roosevelt's first Sunday in office was largely spent indoors at the Wilcox house after recent turmoil. He rested due to fatigue before attending services at the Milburn Roush and later joined the funeral procession to City Hall with Cabinet members and officials.
In Buffalo on September 15 Mrs McKinley endured the day with remarkable steadiness as crowds mourned. She visited the laid out body at Milburn house and softly called his name, then requested the body be moved to Canton for the funeral next week. She plans to ride the funeral train to Washington.
A burning effigy labeled Anarchist Fingold hung from roofs on Cobb street in the South End last evening drawing about 800 spectators. Police dispersed the crowd after the fire and crowd demonstrations near Comp ton street ended without incident.
