Fred McGirr of Bridgeport fought a man named Tuttle of South Norwalk in a Fairfield Beach barn. After two rounds McGirr led, but in the third Tuttle landed a lucky blow to McGirr’s jaw, knocking him out and delaying his rise until minutes after time. Odds were 3 to 1 on McGirr at the start.
The Miowera bringing Sydney news reports a Aug 17 New Zealand quake at Taupo with nearly every chimney toppled and houses swaying violently. Residents camped outside overnight as landslides blocked the Taupo to Kanua road. the event described as the strongest since the Tarawera eruption nine years ago.
