Henry A. Thomas, long time superintendent of mails in Boston since 1889, is removed by Washington and to take effect Monday. Jeremiah O Keefe named as new superintendent. Thomas, born July 29 1856, has held multiple posts in the Boston post office and was active in Republican politics and local organizations. O Keefe, born March 186, is a veteran railway mail clerk with service in the Navy and decades in postal work, assuming duties with a $2700 salary.

Assault on John Wall of Charlestown by slingshot
John Wall 64 of 68 Henley street Charlestown was assaulted yesterday by a young man while showing a renter’s view of 46 Monument square. The assailant knocked Wall to the head with a slingshot eight times, fled, and Wall was saved from fatal harm by neighbors and doctors. Police hunt a man 20 to 35 years old, about 6 feet tall, 160 pounds, sandy complexion, dark mustache, wearing a light hat and coat. The incident is under city police inquiry with no definitive motive beyond robbery.
