Clergyman's carload of converts sparks Topeka case

Miss Lizzie Bell of Topeka joins Rev F W Sandford's group en route to Shiloh Mission Training School in Maine. Mothers try to stop them as about forty men and women travel in Sandford's private car from Kansas City to Maine, with eight workers joining in Topeka. Mrs Phelps accuses Sandford's followers of exploiting religious fervor.

Miss Lizzie Bell Leaves Home for Missionary Work

Kansas girl Miss Lizzie Bell who was said to have become insane under Ida Sandford at Shiloh Me is now in the care of strangers in Topeka. She persuaded Ida and Cora Miller and Mr and Mrs Matchett to join the company on her departure. Her father relaxed efforts to restrain her stating she was of age and seemed determined to go. He hoped the school might help.

Daughters Escape From Sandford School Spark Mission Search

Mr Bell learns of his daughter Lizzie Bell fleeing Sandford's school after letters saying she wished to come home. A search found no results until a telegram reported she was safe in a neighboring town. Lizzie later went to Greene Maine and expressed a wish to return home to Topeka, while staying awhile to work off expenses.

Palmer Citizen Mourns James C Wing Prominent Palmer Resident

Palmer Sept 14 Funeral services for James C Wing a leading Palmer citizen were held at his Central Street home with Rev F B Harrison officiating. Burial follows in Wing family lot at Wayne Me. Wing born June 12 1829 Fayette Maine traced Wing ancestry to 48 and Miles Standish. He served as superintendent for Front Building and Construction and helped erect the academy gymnasium at Monson. He leaves a widow two sons and held posts in Masonic Odd Fellows and local religious groups.
