Jefferson Club Fight Halts After Four Hour Debate

The Jefferson Club of Cambridgeport adjourned after a four hour wrangle over whether two is a majority of five. The influential second Middlesex district club met in Hampshire street rooms to hear its executive report on endorsing two of nine candidates for legislative honors. The Democrats caucus is set for September 24 to vote on all nine names. The debate has heated the party as the club prepares its first major action in the campaign.

Canoe Upset In Lowell Leaves One Drowned

In Lowell three young people four male and two female youths about 20 years old were overturned in a canal. Miss Emma Palm of 369 Lawrence Street drowned. Two others clung to a crossing cable and reached shore safely. Palm was 18. body recovered later.

Two Men Badly Beaten Near Court Square

Patrolman Dun saved Michael Donovan from serious injuries after two men attacked him and a companion on Friend Street near Union Street. The assailants, Michael Purtill and John O Keefe of Somerville, were chased and captured, charged with assault and battery. Donovan said the attack followed them without warning.

Mutiny on Kearsarge Flares Across New York Harbor

Off Staten Island the flagship Kearsarge and squadron ships including the Alabama Texas Illinois and Chicago lie at anchor while crews report a mutinous mood. Some 120 men were jailed for mutinous acts and the men have dubbed the ship the Curse-Hard in reference to ongoing discontent.

Died in Patrol Wagon After Collapse at Barber Shop

Frank Cala Baro a barber of 50 Dorchester avenue collapsed at 263 Columbus avenue while seated in a chair. He died in Division 5 patrol wagon en route to City Hospital after being found with a bankbook showing $27.50 and a paper bearing the name Hingham and the number 26.

Death Comes From Olympia Alcohol Explosion at Norfolk Navy Yard

Apprentice Seifert died at the Marine Hospital after being injured when a five gallon water breaker filled with alcohol exploded on the cruiser Olympia deck. Corporal J. S. Yerkes died, and Third Class Master-at-Arms Custer and Apprentice Spavey were badly burned as a wider alcohol smuggling incident triggered the blast. Naval officials described the sequence of discovery, handling of the barrel, and emergency response aboard the ship.

Car Plunges Into Erie Canal In Syracuse Crash

Dr John Grant Lyman owner of the 20 horsepower car, with Armand W Brand and W T Rynard of New York, drove over a raised bridge into the Erie Canal at West Genesee street. Brand fractured his left ankle when he jumped to the tow path and fell into the canal. the others swam to shore. Brand was rescued by friends due to his injured leg.

John S Adams of Adams Dead Dies at 71 after illness

John S Adams senior partner of Adams Bros Manufacturing Company died at his home aged 71 after a year of kidney disease. He recently returned from Clifton Springs sanitarium. He leaves a widow three children one son and two daughters, one daughter in Europe, and a brother Henry Adams of Rockville Connecticut.

A man peering from a West End rooftop startled residents on Brighton and Poplar streets after 9 PM. Miss Rose Silberstein screamed drawing a crowd. the intruder showered gravel, fled via 136 Brigh ton street, and eluded police. This marks his third appearance in as many evenings.
