Farmers Vow to Run South From Manitoba to Galveston
The Railway Age notes the challenge of finding space in Iowa for a new railway line extending from the Manitoba border southward to Galveston. Canadian Pacific has built two military trains of eleven cars each, carrying men, cooking, officers, stores, and dining cars for 400 people. Boston and Maine expands stations in multiple towns. Rockingham Junction New Brunswick rebuilds a $4500 wooden station with platforms and awnings, while West Manchester adds a colonial wooden station on the Gloucester branch with covered platforms. Holyoke plans a new station. G. A. Ferguson named master mechanic of the Connecticut River division. Sheehy Automatic Railroad Signal Company demonstrates an electrical block system at Lowell station, using signals in locomotive cabs, battery power, and automatic time recording to prevent rear-end collisions and track obstructions, with signals indicating incomplete tracks or trains ahead.
