American forces press the St Mihiel salient advancing five miles from the south and three miles from the west. Ten villages fall to the advance as patrols push well ahead, signaling a major blow in the offensive.
General Pershing’s army advances on a 20 mile front in Lorraine with heavy bombardment and tanks. By mid afternoon the Americans trap several towns including Thiaucourt Pannes Nousard Bouillonville Combres and reach Donmartin outskirts. Hundreds of prisoners and war materials seized as advance continues.
Massachusetts reported more than 485 000 male residents aged 18 to 46 enrolled for United States military service yesterday. No arrests accidents or delays occurred across the state as complete returns were awaited in a matter of days. F Gray Co advertised a sale with suits at 25 00 and 14 90.
Manchester, Sept. 12. Premier Lloyd George is reported to have a chill with a high temperature and may be unable to fulfill all engagements. Official notice says his illness was announced late tonight.
