Grand Army elects Burton its chief
Charles G. Burton of Nevada Missouri was elected commander in chief of the Grand Army of the Republic. He defeated three rivals including General John T. Wilder of Knoxville and Charles Burrows of Rutherford, with a plurality over 300. Additional officers named included Griffith, Scott, Taneyhill, and Fallows. Toledo was chosen as next encampment site. Two veterans died after yesterday's parade: Ensign S. Dunce and Eli S. Robinson.
