Japan protests the stay of a Russian cruiser Lena at San Francisco. The United States has ordered an investigation into the cruiser Lena rights under neutrality laws.
In Maine the 300 of 522 cities report Cobb for Republicans with 59 705 votes and Davis for Democrats with 38 399. GOP gain about 15 percent over 1900 while Democrats up 3 percent. Plurality estimated near 30 000 as the heaviest vote since 1888.
Governor Hill telegraphed from Augusta that Maine expressed appreciation for Roosevelt administration with a about 30 000 plurality. The note said four Congressmen elected by 5000 to 10000 majorities, all but four State Senators, and five sixths of House members.

Acting Secretary of Commerce Murray orders the San Francisco collector to wire the Lena's exact arrival hour and a repair resume. The department will issue instructions on coal needs, possible repairs, dismantling of guns, or coast stay until the Japan Russia war ends.

Lynn Sept 12 Lillie Tucker one year old daughter of Mrs Carrie Tucker died after taking rough on rnts at her mother's home 74 Union Street. She lingered from 7 to 11 30 and died en route to the hospital while unconscious. An autopsy may be performed tomorrow.
