City of Rockland Steamer Launched at East Boston

The City of Rockland of the Boston & Bangor Steamship Co was launched from William McKie’s East Boston yard after delays. Miss Marton Hill christened the vessel as she slid into the harbor, with a champagne bottle on the prow. The 300 foot side wheel steamer, sister to City of Bangor, is the largest east of New York.

Michael defeats Caldwell in 20 mile race at Cooliseum

Michael defeated Harry Caldwell in a 20 mile paced race at the Cooliseum in Springfield with 5000 spectators present. Caldwell fell in the tenth mile and Michael finished alone in 33 10 15. The time nears the world record yet beats the local track record by almost two minutes.

Miller Injured in Colliseum Six Day Race Crash

At New Haven Conn on September 11 Miller the six day world champion sustained a possible brain concussion after a spill at the Colliseum board track Archie McEachern of Canada was also badly hurt. The pacemakers on the motor tandems suffered injuries as well. Miller and McEachern were competing in the six day race.

Nelson Beats Downing In Fifteen Mile Race At Coliseum

At Worcester on September 11 the feature event of the race meet was a fifteen mile motor paced race between John A. Nelson of Chicago and Hardy Downing of San Jose. Nelson won by four laps and 199 yards with a time of 24 minutes 39 seconds.

Chelsea Press club marks half century with event and awards

Eighty five entries were received for the Press club half century run to Acton next Sunday. A club gathering featured songs by a quartet of Maron Baldwin Steele and Skinner, plus a cornet solo by R M Tenney. Letter Carrier White Held After Arrest

Charles L. White a colored letter carrier arrested last week for purloining mail in the South End was arraigned before US Commissioner Fiske in the Post Office building. Probable cause was found and White was held in 1000 for the US grand jury. He was remanded to Charles Street Jail in default of bail.
