Steel cars save lives in a wreck near New Madison

A Pennsylvania Flyer train derailed when a raised rail near Wrylie's station caused a crash. The incident left 35 injured and 18 hospitalized in Richmond Indiana with three believed fatally hurt. anti steel cars were credited with saving many lives.

Wreck On Pennsylvanian Line Near Wylie's Station

A fast train on the Columbus and Indianapolis division of the Pennsylvania Railroad derailed after striking a defective rail near a small steel bridge at Wylie’s station. Six steel coaches derailed while two rear cars stayed on track. several passengers were injured, with relief trains rushing to the scene and women providing bandages from underskirts.

New York reports James W. Gerard sailed today on the Kronprinzes s to assume duties as United States ambassador to Germany. Mrs Gerard will sail October 11. Asked if he could live on his $17 000 salary Gerard replied That is something I should worry about later on.

Four Saved From Wrecks Along Cape Ann

Gloucester reports a northeast gale wrecked two small yachts with four men saved from drowning. The yacht Jack Tar owned by Samuel C Dodge of Marblehead ran ashore near Annisquam light. Keeper Davis aided Dodge and A T Allen ashore. Captain King later boarded the Jack Tar as a 15 foot catboat owned by Charles Parker of Essex was dismasted and capsized off the bar. Parker and Allen Dodge of Boston were pulled from the water after about 15 minutes.

Professor Foley jailed for forgery scheme

Daniel C. Foley alias Professor Smith pleaded guilty to 24 counts of forged checks totaling about 2000 dollars. He was sentenced to three to four years in Charlestown State Prison after posing as a Harvard professor and using bulk purchases with fake payments.

Woman Charged With Murder of Chinaman in Chicago

Mrs. Alice Davis Sing, widow of Chinese merchant Charles Sing, was booked on a murder charge in Chicago after his death at his home. Frank Sing Low, brother of the victim, filed the complaint. Sing declined to discuss the case and proclaimed innocence.
