In Sandusky Taft pledges to push constructive recommendations to Congress to enact Roosevelt era business honesty measures. He argues government regulation of interstate commerce must be clear and swiftly enforced to avoid hindering capital growth and to buttress financial confidence. He supports supervision of inter state rail stock and bond issues. He blames Bryan and Democrats for years of Philippine fighting.
In Manchester and across New Hampshire early returns from Republican caucuses show Rosecrans W. Pillsbury leading the contest for the gubernatorial nomination. With 196 of 260 towns reporting at midnight Pillsbury claims 2% of reported delegates. Quinby has 39% with 394 delegates. Ellis of Keene 50. 24 unpledged or doubtful. Pillsbury carried nine of ten Manchester wards and towns in Hillsboro county. Winston Churchill's home town Cornish went to Pillsbury tonight.
Joseph de L Galvin a leading New England florist and head of the Thomas Galvin greenhouses at 799 Boylston Street died when his buggy struck a lamp post near Mt Bowdoin station Dorchester last evening. John McNamara of 243 Washington Street escaped with minor injuries.

Oyster Bay New York September 8 1908 Secretary Loeb denies reports a shot was fired at President Roosevelt while riding near his home. He later qualified the remark saying no one can prove the shot was aimed at the President amid a demented suspect arrest.
Extracts from Mrs. Rice recount a dramatic tale of an Omaha physician Dr Austin guiding a plan to shoot him. She hesitated twice before firing, then refused. The physician urged a barn shooting scene to mislead others about a burglar.
A 25 year old woman walked into the Niagara River above Prospect Point and was swept over the falls. About seventy five witnesses saw her death. Harold Schafer of Hoboken tried to save her, reaching out from a railing on a scaffold but she missed his hand and vanished into the water.
