Twenty-Second Century Railroad Report Details Gains and Losses
The thirty ninth report of the Connecticut and Passumpsic River railroad for the year ending June 30 1884 shows gross income 837940 35 dollars expenditures 538789 36 and net earnings 304767 97 including last year surplus. Interest and dividends aggregate 299744 52 leaving a present surplus 5023 45. There were declines in passenger and freight receipts but increases in express and rentals. Equipment additions and repairs were made including a brick passenger station at St Johnsbury and an engine house at Newport 1000 tons of steel rails and 81641 new ties laid. No serious accidents occurred. The report discusses relations with the South Eastern and bondholders and notes decreased interest due to nonpayment since Oct 1. The annual meeting will be held in Newport Vermont next week. The Ohio and Mississippi notes call for proxies to secure fair director representation amid ongoing battles between London security holders and Baltimore and Ohio interests.
