In Greenfield on Sept 7 Arthur Strope and Henry Mercier of North Leverett faced District Court for allegedly placing railroad ties on Central Vermont tracks near Mt. Toby Leverett on August 27. Mercier pleads not guilty, Strope pleads guilty, hearing set for the 13th. others unnamed charged, one admits seeking “the fun” of a wreck as a freight train stopped in time and the planks were pushed off by the engine.
