Grandstand at Lowell Burns in Spectacular Fire

A dawn blaze destroyed the Lowell ball park grandstand early this morning, causing an estimated $15,000 in losses. The Lowell versus Lawrence game slated for today will move to Lawrence, with the grounds likely usable the next day despite the fire. The fire started at 2 am and was spotted by a nearby woman who alerted her son, who rang the fire alarm.

Tragedy at Boston Light as Four Are Rescued at Castle Island

A fishing trip aboard the power launch Violet ends in tragedy when a dory capsizes after a steamer wash off Boston. Frank Procida and Frank Estella rescue the four survivors, while two bodies remain missing. the Bradshaws and Butterfield are identified among the rescued and missing. Sailing party saved after dory capsizes off Moon Island

Frank Ranigan and guests were rescued after their sailing dory capsized in a heavy squall off Moon Island head. Ranigan, from Norfolk Downs, had sailed from Quincy and returned from a smelting trip to Hingham. Mark H. Kenney of Somerville spotted the overturned boat and towed it to City Point after righting the vessel.
