A grand investiture ceremony will honor Rev. Thomas Griffin of St John’s Worcester with the insignia of domestic prelate on Oct 2. Behring Sea Seizures Reported by Victoria Captains
A Victoria despatch says the schooner Lilly, from Behring Sea, was boarded August 6 by the United States revenue cutter Rush. 333 seal skins were confiscated and the vessel ordered to Sitka but no prize crew placed aboard. The Lilly sailed home after a brief sealing, meeting the Kate, which had 550 skins and was ordered to heave to but could not due to wind. The Rush reported seven seizures. In Ottawa, Sir John Macdonald returned amid Ottawa reports that England refuses Pacific squadron interference. Canada must handle Behring Sea disputes.
