Attempted Murder and Suicide in Saxonville

Patrick Reardon, about 35, attempted to murder his wife and then kill himself yesterday night. He fired at her head at her home, wounded her, then shot himself, dying instantly. A bystander narrowly escaped a second shot. The incident caused great excitement in the village of Haverhill and is linked to prior threats after his wife left with their five children.

Newton Aldermen conduct routine session with street work

The Newton Board of Aldermen met yesterday with Mayor Hyde presiding. Petitions were reviewed on street widenings for Cotton, Crafts, and Highland streets and gas coal contracts were approved. A city stable project, fire department heating upgrades, and debt certificates were approved. The council adjourned to Sept 1. The Common Council held its first post vacation meeting with organizational changes and a leather badge amendment considered. A dam­ages claim against the city was referred to Claims.
