Reed House Burns in Erie Fire Killing Lamp Flash

In Erie Pennsylvania the Reed House hotel is burning and a total loss is expected after a kerosene lamp exploded. The Daily Despatch building and Ellsworth House face great danger as slight rain falls. Kingston New York reports eight dwellings and three barns burned leaving nine families homeless with losses around twenty thousand dollars. St Louis Missouri notes the malt house of Charles Rupper burned with losses near fifteen thousand dollars.

Body identities swap as Brasher case returns to Boston

In Stonington Connecticut a body marked no one was identified as Mrs Jane N Brasher by a son from East Boston and others. The Boston family later rejected the match and officials plan to inter the body. Charles O Thompson of Auburn New York identified his father and took the body away.
