Thomas McCarthy 45 of East Cambridge died at Cambridge Relief station after three days of peritonitis from abdominal rupture following alleged assault during ejection from Feeney's saloon at Leverett and Brighton. Three Feeney's bartenders were arrested. Collins and Leavey held on manslaughter charge.
Bertha Osis a Swedish girl in City Hospital with a skin infection may have leprosy doctors uncertain for days before decision. If confirmed it would be the second case found by the Board of Health in a week. Dr Shea said she might be sent to Penikese Island.
Bartlett headquarters on Dev onshire street brings in a full set of delegate papers while plans for fights in all Boston wards unfold. Don O Connell doubts a Bartlett delegation in Ward 6 or Ward 24 to avoid implying mayoral support for Whitney. Delegations likely unpledged on both sides as Bartlett and Feeney travel to Fall River and Springfield for events ahead of nomination paper filing tonight.
Public records show Boston paid about 75 000 dollars less than previous years while many heavy coal contracts were let without formal bids. Officials admitted accepting poor coal quality and relying on dealer honesty, with several bills paid without bills of lading and no bids sought for key supplies. Consul Rosentwist condemns relic hunters aboard the cruiser and calls for punishment of thieves to prevent a repeat of the New York incident.

At 10:30 a.m. a solemn pontifical high mass of requiem will be celebrated at the Cathedral by James Cardinal Gibbons of Baltimore. Blessing of the body will be given by church prelates. Archbishop William H. O'Connell will deliver the eulogy. At 12:30 a solemn procession will move to the Cathedral basement where the remains will be placed in the crypt.
The highway commissioners plan to resume their hearing today on the Post petition seeking rate reductions and service improvements. Attorney Edmund A. Whitman argues the scope and timing were improperly limited and will push to broaden the inquiry to the company’s founding. Vice-President Kellar testified before adjournment and will be recalled. John H. Lee may be summonsed. Officials questioned phantom workers payrolls and potential grand jury scrutiny. If all 100 phantoms prove employment against the law, fines could exceed ten thousand dollars.
