Clans Gather at Caledonian Grove for Mass. Picnic

Twelve thousand Scots gathered at Caledonian Grove West Roxbury for the Clans of Massachusetts annual picnic and games. A parade of fifteen hundred Scots led by Clan McKenzie featured hundreds in Hughland dress and plaid. J A McDonald starred, winning four events, with heavy prize money and a full afternoon of amateur and professional competitions on track and field.

Irish Athletes Picnic Draws Big Crowds at Oak Island Grove

Eight thousand people attended the twelfth annual National Irish Athletice Association picnic and games at Oak Island Grove. The event featured star entrants, a five mile run won by McGonigle after a tight finish with Sullivan and Dineen, plus multiple track and field events. Notables in attendance included Congressman Henry F. Naphen and Alderman Philip O'Brien, with the National Guard Band providing music.

Marksmen Compete at Seagirt New Jersey Regimental Match

The first stage of the interstate regimental team event was shot today at Seagirt NJ with a second stage and skirmishing planned tomorrow. Leading scores span units from Washington DC, New Jersey, and Boston with Forty to Fifty point ranges and individual marksman tallies listed.

Elkes Ties World Record on One-Sixth Mile at Coliseum

Harry Elkes, in his first U.S. appearance this season, equalled the world mark for a one sixth mile track at the Coliseum. J. J. Casey won the 10 mile match race with Frank Butler of Cambridge. Janek Colgan defeated two rivals in the one mile pursuit, catching them before two miles.

Charter Oak Purse Won at Hartford Grand Circuit Meet

Georgens, Lord Derby the favorite, won the Charter Oak purse of 10 000 at Charter Oak Park in Hartford with an audience of over 8000. Alameda and Midway were strong contenders in the 2 30 pace, while Grattan Boy dominated the 2 08 heat trio, earning 950. John Nolan suffered a broken fetlock and may retire from racing.

Dorchester crowd at Readville meets for driving club card

A large Dorchester turnout attended a Readville track meeting by the Gentlemen's Driving Club. Seven races featured Landlord winning the free for all, Camden Girl taking the trotting event, and Billy Crocker storming the pony races. An Arlington road wagon exhibition set a new half mile track mark.

Combination Park Closes Season With Two Day Shows

At Combination Park the season ended with an afternoon and an evening performance. Nearly 15,000 attended across both shows as three light harness races and a running race plus bicycles were on the afternoon card.

Won Lynn Championship at Lynn bicycle races

The Lynn bicycle meet produced multiple local titles on September 3. Forrest Osgood won the 15 mile city championship for Clover Cycle Club in 84 minutes 44.96 seconds, while Harry A. Hill followed. Elmer E. Collins beat Fred Goggins in a 10 mile tandem pace match race in 23.55. Mel Lenfest won a two heat one mile race over Henry Pete. Gautro outpaced Randall in two heats for a 1 mile event. E L Walker took the five mile tandem city title over Harry Down in 12.412 seconds. Tred Weaver and Frank Elliott won a one mile tandem race in 2.29.

Caldwell Wins Six Day Bicycle Race at Coliseum Track

Harry Caldwell of Manchester New Hampshire won the sixday hour a day race at the Coliseum track by more than two miles over Burns Pierce. Caldwell, who had never ridden in an hour contest before, drew cheers from about 4000 spectators as the six days totals show Caldwell at 200 miles 4 laps 128 yards, Pierce 198 miles 8 laps 8 yards, and Walthour 186 miles 2 laps 75 yards.

At Wollaston Quincy on Montclair links today the Wollaston Golf Club held a members handicap event. Strong wind kept scoring high and greens lively. Net prize won by R. H. Whitney while R. R. Freeman tied with C. L. Bremer for gross score.

In Marblehead on September 3 the Clifton Golf Club staged a Pomney handicap event. Despite liberal handicaps no one beat the elusive perfecto. George P. Allston Golf Club Opens Fall Season With Medal Play

The Allston Golf Club on Commonwealth avenue opened the fall season with an 18 hole handicap medal event. Fifteen competitors posted strong scores. In Class A W H Latham won first prize with Tyler Pratt second. In Class B G A Sawyer took the first prize with a net score, while I Weltz W H Young and F B Humphrey tied for second with the same total.

New London Connecticut September 3 Patsy Sweeney of Manchester New Hampshire fought Jack Sloan of Brooklyn at the New London Opera House. Sloan was knocked out in the second round after a one sided contest that began early and continued through the round.
