Boston jogs clue to Slugger case as Soderquist held

John L. Soderquist janitor at the Natural History rooms Berkeley and Boylston Streets is identified by Miss Eva Crockett and by Jeanette Marshall as the man who assaulted women in Boston and Brookline. Police charge him with assault with intent to murder and plan to bring witnesses to Cambridge for statements. Soderquist denies the crimes, claims a blank memory and cites head pains while his wife defends him as loving and sane aside from recent distress.

Curtis's Home Gutted by Fire in Boston Residence

Ex Mayor Edwin A Curtis suffered a major attic fire at his 151 Bay State Road home. Two servant girls escaped in nightclothes as smoke and flames filled the second floor. Firemen fought the blaze, confining most damage to the second story. loss to furniture carpets and paintings remains undetermined. Curtis and family are staying at Lexington for the summer.

Newton Servant Wields Axe in Terror at 11 Hollis Street

Isabella Waite a domestic for Mr and Mrs T E Eustis at 11 Hollis Street became violent, seized with insanity, damaged furniture with an axe, and threatened the household. Patrolman John Quilty secured her and she was placed under observation at police headquarters. Waite had worked for the family about two weeks, arriving from a Boston agency.

Charlestown Car Accidents Injure Two Residents

Seven year old William Carr of 32 Cory street was struck by an electric car at Bunker Hill and Lexington, suffering a severe head wound. Mrs. Rosannah H. Kirby, 65, of 40 Mt Vernon street, was knocked down at Chelsea and Adams streets but unharmed.

Boston and Maine Trains Collision Near Lawrence

A Bar Harbor express collided at a Salem street bridge crossing a Haverhill bound train in South Lawrence. Both trains were late, but few injuries occurred as passengers were shaken and several windows shattered. The crash is described as narrowly avoided disaster due to timing, with trains resuming service shortly after midnight.

Clement's Strong Vermont Vote Defeats Governor Election Doubt

White River Junction Vermont Sept 3 The Vermont state election ends without an outright people's vote for Governor and Lieutenant Governor as large returns show Percival W Clement high license candidate narrowly trailing General John G McCullough Republican in early results from 204 towns. Clement gains in big cities and Rutland, while McCullough loses GOP strength to Clement and a split Democratic vote with Prohibitionist influence noted.

Two East Boston Boys Probable Drowned

A probable drowning accident was reported to harbor police last night. Frank Mc Master aged 10 and Stephen Monahan aged 12, both of East Boston, left Harbor View in a small rowboat at 2 PM yesterday and have not been seen since. Their parents are frantic as they were inexperienced with rowing and usually return soon. No sign of the boat or youths had been found by midnight.

A Copenhagen dispatch to Central News says St. Petersburg reports the Czarina miscarried but her condition is not alarming. If true, the news would cause keen disappointment across Russia as prayers had centered on a male heir for the Czars children.

Cayvan Sister Denies Health Rumors From New York

Miss Alice W Cayvan refutes reports that actress Georgia Cayvan was removed from a Flushing sanitarium to Boston. She says Georgia is not blind, though eyesight is affected, and remains rational at times. Her condition is weakness, not suffering, and she is often in a happy mood.

Lena Starr and Joseph Grauman wed in East Boston

A prominent Hebrew social event last night united Miss Lena Starr of this city and Joseph Grauman of Scranton Penn at Commonwealth Hall East Boston. Rabbi Margolis officiated and the bride was given away by her father Rabbi David Starr. The couple will visit the Berkshire hills then reside in Scranton Penn.

Military prize drill results at Worcester

On September 2 in Worcester the competitive prize drill of military companies concluded with Worcester City Guards taking first place. Runners up were Company AB of the Second Regiment Rhode Island Volunteers from Providence in second, and Company C of the Sixth Regiment Infantry Massachusetts Volunteer Militia from Lowell in third.

Quigley Injured in Beach Street Assault

Patrick Quigley of 35 Rochester Street was treated at Emergency Hospital for a severely lacerated chin after three men accosted him on Beach Street at about 9 PM. One assailant struck him with a large stone. ten stitches were needed. No description of the attacker was obtained.

Show Manager Accused of Assault at Amusement Resort

A man, unnamed, told police he was assaulted at an amusement resort last night. He said the manager kicked him across the room and then struck him on the head with a water pail after declaring the show indecent. The charges are being investigated.

High License Sweeps Burlington Storm Center

Burlington voters backed Clement and high license in the state election. Clement won by 669 as major figure, while Dr. W S Vincent was elected city representative on the second ballot by 9 percent. The fusion county ticket appears to win State Senator, with E M Sutton defeating C S Ashley. Sheriff Thomas Reeds and State Attorney G E Bower seem defeated. C C Bower wins Grand Isle county seat over Ladd.
