Fire at Richardson stable burns man and seven horses
A fire at 1:30 this morning in Richardson's Fruit street stable destroyed the two story wooden building and spread to Miller & Finnegan's stables. A man believed to be John O Connell sleeping in the second story perished. Seven horses burned. Loss around 2500 dollars with partial insurance. Officers Coughlin and Bates rescued about twenty five barges. George W Wilkins, a lumber man and barge owner, is reported hiding in a Toronto hotel under his own DAW.
