Reliance Fails to Finish as Wind Ends Shamrock Challenge

In a delayed windward dash off Long Island Reliance fails to clinch a third victory over Shamrock III as a dying breeze ends the race near Sandy Hook. Shamrock III trails by about two and a half miles with Reliance two miles ahead at the outer mark. The race ends with both yachts towed. tomorrow to host a rematch under New York Yacht Club oversight.

Nantasket Steamer’s Engine Pin Break Causes Near Panic

The Nantasket faulted last evening on a 5:20 Boston to Pemberton run when a pin broke in the engine shaft near President Roads. Passengers feared grounding as the vessel drifted for about 30 minutes before towboat John F. Hughes steered it to Pemberton landing. One trip was missed. repairs were made and service resumed. Employee Andrew F Pope was pulled overboard but escaped destruction, rescued by George James of Hull.

Hunger Drives Escaped Boy to Surrender in New York

Frank Hornick er, 17, walked into Morrisania police station and surrendered after escaping from Lyman Reform School in Westboro Massachusetts. He said two days without food forced the surrender and the authorities were alerted to his escape and return.

Lamp Explodes in Court Street Tunnel Injures Three Italians

A gasoline lamp explosion in a Court Street tunnel near the Adams building last evening about 6 o clock lightly burned three Italian laborers. Luigi Padello suffered the most with burns to the hands. others were treated on the scene and returned to work. Bricks and sand doused the fire before it spread.

McNamee Opens State Campaign Rally in Cambridge

The opening rally for the state campaign in Cambridge was held in Francis Hall. Mayor McNamee led the event with speakers including John J. Scott William P. Nickerson and John Brennan. McNamee urged Democrats to elect a district representative and praised Ward 8 as Democratic, while avoiding pledges for any specific man.

Wanamaker In Mason & Hamlin Company Seeks Reorganization

Creditors met at the Cambridge factory as Frank D. Allen read a statement showing assets of 309 165 32 and liabilities of 286 316 56. A committee was formed to meet the assignees with powers to appoint a chairman and call the next meeting. Allen said a New York financier, John Wanamaker, was ready to back the company and hoped to reorganize and keep the factory operating.

Knife miss hurts girl in South Boston alley incident

Fourteen year old Annie Butler of 99 Athens Street was taken to Emergency Hospital with a two inch long and four inch deep cut under the left arm after a romp with playmates on Athens Street. Conflicting reports say a boy playmate stabbed her by accident or design, with police investigating the incident.
