New York Belmont Park hosted the Statue of Liberty flight with John B Moisant, American, winning the $10 000 prize after a dramatic last hour surge. He entered a machine borrowed for him and beat Claude Grahame White by 43 seconds in a 34 mile circuit across Queens County Brooklyn and the harbor return to Belmont Park.
Congressman Eugene N. Foss Democratic candidate for Governor responded to Colonel Henry Lee Higginson who called him a great manufacturer and a great speculator. Higginson warned against plungers who owe large sums, citing a personal experience as a caution.
In his reply Mr. Foss notes sentiments from Colonel Higginson at Governor Draper’s dinner. He says his attention was given due to long standing regard for Higginson, reflecting the conversations of Massachusetts veterans.
Miss Mary F. McDougall, at 6 Chiswick road Brookline, robbed Thursday night at Englewood and Chestnut Hill avenues. Miss Mary Murphy of Homeopathic Hospital robbed Friday night at Summit and Commonwealth avenues. Mrs. Charles H. Atwood of 127 Franklin street Allston robbed Saturday night at Eastern and Franklin streets. Miss Catherine E. Coakley of 96 Corey road Brookline robbed Sunday night before 84 Corey road. Another woman held up near the Brighton Brookline line yesterday. Fourth such robbery in four days.
