Gas explosion kills five at Kingston Coal mine Edwardsville

In Kingston Coal Company No 1 shaft No 3 slope Edwardsville a gas explosion at 3 pm claimed five lives and badly burned six others. Rescuers faced after damp and dangerous conditions as the roof collapsed and two rescuers were carried out. An employee diverted air, allowing gas to accumulate. the dead include Michael Gulawehous and Adam Waynales. two of the injured are in critical condition and all missing have been found.

Man Fatally Falls Into Steamship Hold At Pier 4

Lawrence Hyde, 81 Magnolia Street Cambridge, fell about 2 feet into the hold of the steamship Columbia last night. He was loading the vessel at Pier 4 of the Hoosac Tunnel docks. Hyde sustained a fractured left wrist and serious internal injuries and likely died from the accident.
