Hugh K Norman Dies in Providence After Illness

Hugh K Norman of Newport Rhode Island died in Providence hospital after laryngitis and sudden complications. He was 39, survived by his widow in Europe and his brother Reginald. A former Navy lieutenant and executive officer of the Glacier, he was a prominent Rhode Island clubman.

Barbershop fined for health rule violation in South Boston

Alexander Rera, proprietor of Rera's Barber Shop, was found guilty by Judge Fallon in the South Boston Court yesterday for violating a newly adopted Board of Health regulation. He was fined $10, after admitting the shop was hard to keep clean though he claimed attempts were made to maintain proper condition.

Son shoots mother in Roxbury home

Richard Purcell, 27, is charged with shooting his mother, Mrs. Catherine Purcell, in their Luteman Place cottage after a day of heavy drinking. She was wounded in the thigh and, aided by neighbor Mrs. Morrissey, sought help as Richard was taken to the station and his mother to the City Hospital for surgery with a cautious path to recovery ahead.

Two Lowell Girls Missing. Police Seek Lillian Fay and Mary Donovan

Boston police search for two Lowell mill girls, Lillian Fay age nearly 16 and Mary Ellen Donovan about 18, who left Boott mill with $10 and were traced to a Cambridge Street house before disappearing. Parents fear they are hiding in Boston. Donovan’s father may live in East Boston. Fay scolded for skipped high school.

German ship H. Bischoff wrecked near Elbe with twelve men lost

The German ship H. Bischoff, Captain Schwarzing, from Caleta Buena July 2, was wrecked at Grosser Vogels near the Elbe entrance. A boat with eight crew and another with four set out to assist but both boats are missing and presumed lost.

Hall Held in $300 Bail in Roxbury Threat Case

E. Hall arraigned in Roxbury Court on a charge of threatening to kill his wife. He pleaded not guilty and the case was continued to November 3 with bail set at $800. He reportedly served eight years in Charlestown as an accessory in the Codman murder. Hall is said to be wanted in Maine for a murder case from Shirley involving a foreman named McKenney. He and his wife had posed as Mr and Mrs E F Balpey at 6 Northfield Street.

General Flagler Dead at 67 in New York

General Benjamin Flagler died this morning at the Fifth Avenue Hotel in New York from a complication of diseases. He was born in Lockport in 183, served as captain of the Twenty-eighth New York Volunteers in the Civil War, then joined the customs service rising to collector in 1878 and holding the post until 1886.
