Controversy over Mrs. Ladd for State Board of Agriculture
At a Governor's Council hearing Representative Edward E. Chapman opposed appointing Mrs. George S. Ladd of Sturbridge to succeed Henry Howard on the State Board of Agriculture saying a woman on the board would stir strife. The council delayed action until after the state election and set a public hearing for Earnest E. Smith for the minimum wage board. No action was taken on Ward's reappointment to the Board of Insanity or the Boston high pressure pumping site. Armory plans were approved for Taunton and Woburn with $60,000 each to house militia units.
