German Americans Cheer Cleveland at Cooper Union Rally

New York October 27 German American Cleveland Union packed Cooper Union for a mass meeting in support of Grover Cleveland. Speakers including Carl Schurz and Oswald Ottendorfer praised Cleveland while denouncing McKinley and the tariff act. The audience, many prominent German American figures, roared approval as Cleveland spoke of American prosperity and assimilation.

Fire Fatalities Reported In Cleveland Rag Warehouse

A blaze at the Crocker block, 62 Water street, Cleveland, endangered nearby properties and trapped about thirty workers on the fourth floor. Two girls, one identified as Lizzie, are feared dead. others escaped. Loss estimates place stock and building at around $100,000 with $50,000 insured.

Lawlessness Rising in Homestead Strike Clash

At 8 30 this morning on Dickson street non union workers D W Fyock and John Homer were attacked by strikers. Fyock fired in self defense striking a boy named Clark in the leg and was jailed. Tensions mount as citizens fear a breakdown of peace and call for deputies from Sheriff McCleary.

Suffolk County Probate records show the late Joseph N Fiske left an estate valued at 5 284 023 89 with 4 189 323 34 in personal property. Remarkably little railroad stock was held, only 80 800 of the total, the remainder in real estate bonds notes and other securities.

Died Suddenly at Boston Stock Exchange

Mr Ralph P Ahl of Messrs Ralph P Ahl and Co died suddenly on the floor of the Boston Stock Exchange at 105 pm He fell while moving to meet his brother at the rail He was carried to the bond room but showing no signs of life Physicians said he was dead Trading at the exchange halted and adjourned at 125 pm He became a member of the exchange March 23 1889 and held an office at No 53 State street

Mahoney’s Sudden Death in Spirit Vat at East Cambridge

Early yesterday morning John Mahoney a night distiller at the Bay State Distillery East Cambridge fell into a spirit vat and was instantly suffocated. He was about 48 a widower and leaves four children. His home was on Columbia Street Medical Examiner Swan viewed the remains.

Gardella Sentenced to Four Years for Knife Assault

Guiseppi Gardella was sentenced by Judge Braley in Superior Court yesterday afternoon to four years in the State prison for assault with a knife upon Stefano Molinari with intent to kill. The crime occurred December 25, 1890. Gardella's young wife attended the proceedings and was removed from the courtroom after the sentence.

Storm in the Channel Hits English Coast
