The Merchant at Tremont Theatre in Boston Review

Theatrical critic lauds Miss Martha Morton's The Merchant as modern and ambitious yet uneven in plotting and stagecraft. Vanderstyle’s moral conflict, wife, Dupre, and a Western girl drive a story praised for dialogue and character reality, though some conventions feel dated. Cast performance earns praise for Maida Craigen, John Glendenning, Cuyler Hastings, with Le Moyne and Ormonde delivering notable work. Costume design evokes 1840s period. The run shifts to The Charity Ball and The Wife after Old Heads and Young Hearts.
