Wordsworth and Massey in two American poetry collections
A critical note weighs modern introductions to Wordsworth and Massey. Rolfe’s edition of Wordsworth is praised for text choices though criticized for heavy notes and too many selections. Massey’s volumes are seen as flawed by some poems yet strong in war poems, while Carleton’s City Legends and Farm Ballads are deemed uneven but earnest in feeling.

Paddling in Florida and Letters from Hell reviewed
A critical digest surveys Paddling in Florida by St George Rathborne as a boy’s adventure tale with weak writing but some scattered information. The Foe of the Household promotes temperance with sensational scenes but earnest advocacy. Letters from Hell translated with Macdonald preface is discussed for its grim allegory and challenge to the hell concept, noting 18th century Denmark origin and moral aim.
