The tug Thomas J. Scully towed barges Admiral, Camarie, Wyandotte and Atlantic four miles west of Cornfield Light when a gale broke the hawser. The Admiral leaked then collided with a second barge, sinking all four. two crew on the Admiral were lost while seven others including two women and a baby were rescued from the others. Rescue Efforts Fail as Irma Likely Lost Near Thrum Cap
Tugs failed to reach the stranded 232-ton Irma near Thrum Cap Shoals eight miles from Halifax after hours of effort in a heavy southwest gale.
