Depew Accused Of Deceiving A Priest In New York
Senator Chauncey M. Depew’s marriage in Nice was cited as a case of deception under Catholic law by Rev. J. H. McMahon. The priest described how a Catholic ceremony followed by a Protestant one violated church rules, noting the parish cure acted to mislead. Depew defended himself saying he believed the second ceremony was lawful and knew about French rites through family marriages.
