State ward on parole from Lancaster Industrial School she had been despondent and after telephoning her employers last night attempted suicide on the Piazza before collapse and removal. This is reported as her second such attempt.
Alfred Bevington a 17 year old Lexing ton High School junior was robbed at the Jenney gasoline station State road and Wal tham street Lexington by four men armed with revolvers about 7 last evening They rifled the cash drawer of about $30 and fled in a high powered car toward Waltham The men described as between 2 and 2 years old demanded the money and escaped with it.
Patrolman McCarthy of the Matta pan police station was knocked down and beaten by three youths in a Norfolk street store. They fled in a car before reserves arrived. he was taken to Relief Hospital early this morning.
Washington October 31 The Senate faced a threatened battle over income surtax rates to be included in a new revenue law. Republican leaders backed a compromise plan with a maximum rate of 50 percent, expected to pass before adjournment. Absent Republican senators prompted a call from Lodge and Curtis to attend daily sessions for timely action.
Seven policemen were injured when a bomb exploded in a crowd on Wagram avenue during a French Communist party meeting protesting the Sacco and Vanzetti murders. The clash followed a march to the American embassy as demonstrators protested in Paris on October 21.
Basil Pesa, 55, of 38 School Street Somerville, died at Somerville Hospital after being struck by a car on Highland Avenue. Police say the vehicle was driven by Mrs. Allyn Conant of 189 Summer Street. Pesa’s skull was fractured. he had planned to be married at Thanksgiving.
