Democrats packed Tremont temple despite rain to hear Hon. Charles Levi Woodbury and Frederick O Prince discuss reforms and issues. Speaker Prince praised party leadership while Woodbury attacked Massachusetts legislature and poll tax, urging weekly payments and workers' redress amid a speech noting reform plans and party unity.
In Boston a Massachusetts Democrat extols the national administration led by a president-elect, lauds the Worcester ticket, and urges united support. He notes unrest among industrial workers, cites labor and Knights of Labor as concerns, defends election law changes, and urges turnout on November 4 to restore state affairs. A telegram from General McClellan to Prince Boston closes the event.
A Worcester Democratic rally features speeches praising Grover Cleveland's renomination, defense of biennial elections, and opposition to altering the constitution to longer governor terms. Speakers stress state issues, platform unity, and the need to sustain the president while warning against copying other states' practices.

Delta Kappa Epsilon opened its annual convention in Meriden with about 125 delegates from major colleges and universities. The program includes a secret business session, a concert by Yale and Wesleyan Glee clubs, a Middletown church exercises with Senator Butler and Julian Hawthorne, and a Winthrop hotel banquet presided by ex-Governor Long with Butler as speaker.
The convention at the Fifth Avenue hotel continued with delegates from New Orleans Milwaukee Pennsylvania Ohio Delaware and New Jersey. The body reviewed the Lowell bill in detail and recommended its passage by Congress.
John McCarthy of Cochrane's chemical works Malden suffered severe burns and scalds from an overnight chemical explosion. His eyes and face were badly injured and he was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital where doctors fear he may not recover.
Eliza R. Healey was found guilty of manslaughter by the Kingston supreme court after a three day trial over the July shooting of her husband with a shotgun. She received a 12 year prison sentence.
Rev Henry Ward Beecher arrived in Boston and checked in at the Parker house. Hon Wilbur Fiske Stone, a New England native, seeks the Iowa supreme court judgeship as a Democrat. President D C Gi man of Johns Hopkins University tours town after speaking at Phillips Exeter Academy. Captain Alpheus J Palmer of Bangor Maine, veteran of the Mexican War, visited the Post yesterday. Palmer was part of the ninth New England regiment under Colonel and in General Franklin’s brigade.
