Corwin Arrives With Arctic News and Lost Vessels
The revenue cutter Corwin returns to San Francisco after venturing to the Arctic. She reports three vessels lost in Gallowa bay on August 15 with uncertain names. Heavy Arctic weather delayed her, and a Wrangell Land landing was aborted when the rudder failed. In Chamesso island an old astronomical station was found with British inscriptions including Blossom and Herald. Mammoth skeleton and muskox remains were discovered at Elephant Point.
