Mrs. Mary Hayes a widow over 60 fell with a lit kerosene lamp while ascending stairs. The lamp burst and burning oil enveloped her, setting the house on fire briefly. Firemen controlled the blaze, but Mrs Hayes sustained severe burns to her face neck and upper body and is in precarious condition. She leaves several children and is highly regarded locally.

Halifax Nova Scotia October report states mackerel aboard the Highland Light seized for fishing inside the three mile limit have been appraised. The appraised value will be paid into court and the fish forwarded to owner Mr Kemp of Wellfleet Massachusetts.
