From the society for the prevention of cruelty to children records over five months 909 new cases occurred in degraded or homeless settings. Of these 344 had intemperate fathers 190 intemperate mothers 116 no fathers 161 no mothers 61 with step parents 36 with parents in residence 20 illegitimate. Seventy cases went to court involving at least 150 children. In addition 1,032 cases were reinvestigated bringing total beneficiaries to 1,941. Some children were placed in good homes or institutions while others faced legal punishment or reform.
