Hartford news reports a head on collision on Bolton hill between Conductor King’s freight train and Conductor Gardner’s No 69. Separate item notes a probable fatal rear collision in Elizabeth New Jersey with multiple cars damaged and the freight engineer seriously injured. George Cook of Burnham a brakeman on the Maine Central freight was fatally struck by an express train from Portland at Hermon Centre five miles from Bangor on Wednesday night after the freight left Bana at 6 30. The accident occurred as he walked along the track amid the darkness and his body was removed to Burnham for burial. The incident is under investigation by railroad officials and authorities.
George F. Page of Chicago alleges he was knocked down in Concord by a man named Goodwin and robbed of 200 dollars. Governor and council appointments include C. W. Hackett and Austin F. Pike. Albert E. Dewey is pardoned. Willis B. Newton wins damages in a voting-right case. A Concord trotting race yields Star Gazer victory in 2:46 with record heat attempts 2:28 and 2:27 targets, aiming for faster times.
Freight brakeman Jerry McDermott fell from a Vermont Valley train at Bellows Falls on Wednesday, breaking his neck and severing his body in two. Edward S. Stone a 15 year old nephew of Marie Stone of musical wee is killed at the Naphtha laundry in South Worcester on Wednesday morning. A broken belt on a rapidly revolving shaft hurled him against an iron cage and left him horribly mangled. Also on Wednesday near Mansfield Mark E. Janes and son were thrown from a runaway team. Mr. Janes suffers a broken collar bone while the wagon passed over the boy who escaped injury.
Jennie Bent, 40, died Wednesday afternoon in Providence from an overdose of chloral taken during a personal crisis. The incident reflects a tragic self harm episode amid mental health struggles.
In Connecticut a steam pipe ruptured at Tuttle and Whittemore's Union City plant on Wednesday night. The night engineer, Carpenter, suffered severe burns and is expected to die.
New York reports a river dock attack as six thieves boarded a lighter at Inman pier and tied Capt. Dalton. He freed himself, fired, and was shot dead amid a reply fire.
