Seth K. Harwood a longtime Newton hotel operator and former Alderman died at his Washington Street home after weeks of illness. Born in Athol in 1846 he began hotel work in 1866 at the Waverley House Charlestown later at Coolidge House Boston where he rose to chief clerk and later proprietor. He moved to Newton in 1878 purchasing the Vose estate and built the Hotel Hunnewell on Washington Street which he owned and ran. He served in the 1887 City Council and was a member of St John’s Church Nato Lodge AOUW and Mason. He leaves a widow.

Inspectors note the nuisance and the matter will be tabled at tomorrow night’s full board meeting for abatement steps.
A friendly wrestling encounter in Cambridge near Harding Street led to the death of Dennis McCue. The 4 to 5 pm scuffle caused McCue to fall and strike a wagon wheel, fracturing his skull. Dennis Buckley a 63 year old farmer of West Stockbridge was struck by a backing train near State Line last night. The impact fractured his skull and broke his shoulder while he walked home from State Line. His body was found at 8 am by a passerby leaving a wife and five children.
Susquehanna Penn Oct 16 A coal train wreck on the Jefferson division of the New York Lake Erie and Western railway at Stevens Point yesterday morning killed Brakeman Penny of Carbondale.
Randpol, Wis., Oct. 16. The business portion of the village burned yesterday, causing an estimated loss of 75000 dollars. Firefighters battled the flames to prevent spread to surrounding structures. No injuries reported as crews contained the blaze by nightfall.
