Diver Captain Recalls Major Shipwreck and Auction Bid
Captain Stone, 53, has spent forty years diving along the coast and recounts a White Star line disaster off Myers Head in 1875 where over six hundred died. He describes lifting sunken hatches to find corpses in bunks, including mothers with children, a harrowing memory. The yacht named the same as the source was bid on at auction by his firm, which has little experience in this line, and cost is higher than the purchase price, with substantial further expenses already incurred for tug boats and equipment.
