Washington street at the Milk junction was dug up all day causing a wide ditch from Milk to Devonshire. Last night the street was impassable and south bound street cars detoured via Devonshire Congress and Federal streets. Pedestrians peered at the gravel pile and speculated on the diggings.
A dated list records ships arriving at and sailing from ports including New York Boston Philadelphia Glasgow London and Hamburg with origins such as Havre Antwerp Palermo Montreal and Liverpool. Several entries note ship names and dates from Oct 11 to Oct 16 along with routes to Hamburg London and Liverpool among others.

Stock market remained weak with banks reporting lower reserves and mixed female labor returns.
Minneapolis October 16 Knights of Labor leaders discuss alleged funding efforts from Michigan New Jersey and Illinois figures aimed at defeating Congressmen Tread and Morrison. The general executive board shows no political expenses in records but votes to publicly reviewElection dynamics and targets Randall Carlisle Morrison Reed as labor opponents while pledging action through party machinery. The assembly plans to adjourn sine die this week.
