Solemn Month of My Heart Poem Fragment

Poem fragment lamenting the month of September or autumn called solemn and beautiful. The speaker recalls faded leaves, fading sunsets, purple clouds, and memories of happier days, asking where those living hours have gone and describing weariness.

Bishop McIlvaine Angers New York Clergy and Laity

In New York on October 13 1848 Bishop McIlvaine of Ohio lectured against Puseyism and Bishop Onderdonk, angering laity who regard his interference as officious. They defend parish autonomy, berate him, and declare Broadways beauty a different paradise as they attend to their own quarrels. The weather is fair.
